This review aims to critically assess research reports on treating mucosal lichen planus. This chronic inflammatory disease impacts the quality of life in patients and causes severe symptoms in recalcitrant forms. A large range of therapeutic drugs can be used locally directly on the lesions or in a general systemic way. The clinical lesions, histological severity, general comorbidities and the patient's adherence to therapy are all considered while deciding the best prescription for each patient. The outcomes are not always stable, and modulating the therapy based on the clinical response is the best course of action for oral and/or vulvo-vaginal lichen planus.
