This research paper explores the antimicrobial activity and rheological characteristics of six hydrogel formulations with chitosan and alginate matrices, formulated with volatile oils. The study aims to assess the suitability of these hydrogels for biomedical applications, particularly in wound healing and antimicrobial therapies. Hydrogels were prepared with varying concentrations of chitosan and alginate and enriched with different volatile oils recognized for their antimicrobial properties. The antimicrobial activity of each hydrogel formulation was assessed against three standard microbial strains. Furthermore, rheological analysis was conducted to elucidate the mechanical attributes and applicability of the hydrogels in specific biomedical contexts. The findings of this research provide valuable insights into the design and advancement of novel hydrogel- based materials with enhanced antimicrobial activity and tailored rheological profiles, opening avenues for their potential utilization in diverse biomedical and pharmaceutical applications.
