Malnutrition is a common problem among patients hospitalised with cardiovascular disease, negatively affecting their prognosis. This study, conducted on 204 patients hospitalised with acute coronary syndromes or decompensated heart failure, assessed nutritional status using the CONUT score, a simple tool for detecting nutritional risk. The results showed that 35.6% of patients were malnourished, these being generally older, with more severe renal and cardiac impairment and increased levels of inflammatory markers such as hsCRP and IL-6. Mortality among them was significantly higher (29.7% vs. 3.0%). Statistical analysis confirmed that a CONUT score ≥ 3 is an independent predictor of reduced survival, with each additional point increasing the risk of death by 29%. These data underscore the importance of routine nutritional assessment in hospitalised cardiac patients for the early identification of vulnerable patients and the implementation of interventions aimed at improving their prognosis.
