Acne vulgaris is a widespread inflammatory skin disorder that arises from a combination of hormonal activity, microbial proliferation, excessive sebum production, and follicular hyperkeratinization. While traditional treatments such as antibiotics and retinoids are commonly used, they often face challenges like skin irritation, resistance development, and limited efficacy. Lipid-based nanovesicles, especially liposomes and related vesicular systems, have gained attention for their potential to enhance drug penetration, improve targeting of pilosebaceous units, and reduce side effects. This review provides an overview of acne pathophysiology and treatment options, highlighting the role of lipid-based nanovesicles in acne management. A key focus is placed on the integration of eco-friendly strategies in lipid-based nanovesicle development, including the use of biodegradable lipids, renewable materials, green solvents, and sustainable manufacturing processes. These advancements support the creation of dermatological formulations that are not only effective but also aligned with environmental sustainability goals. The review discusses the potential of green nanotechnology in reshaping the future of acne treatment.
