Out of the large family of human papillomaviruses (HPVs), some viral strains are related to several types of cutaneous, anogenital and oral mucosa cancers, by developing strategies to escape both innate and adaptive host immune system. The management of HPV infection is oriented towards the lesions associated with active infection, the ablative strategies deployed today having a great percentage of recurrences. Although much is known about the biology of HPVs, a specific antiviral treatment is missing yet. We developed an observational prospective study aiming to determine whether the use of a fixed herbal compound as immunomodulator enhances patients’ immunity to such level that the HPV strain or strains that the host carries are purged from the site of the initial diagnosis (cervix).
