The synthesis of new products by combining different physiologically active structural cores is of great interest to medicinal chemists due to the potential for synergistic effects, which can result in hybrids with enhanced pharmaceutical activities. Eight coumarin-chalcone hybrids were synthesized by reacting 4-hydroxy-3-acetylcoumarin with various substituted aro- matic aldehydes. The structures of the synthesized products were fully characterized using spectral methods. Detailed as- signment of 1H- and 13C-NMR resonances was achieved through a combination of 1H- 1H COSY, NOESY, HSQC and HMBC experiments. Antioxidant activities were evaluated using the DPPH free radical scavenging assay.
