Data Sharing Policy

Commitment to Data Transparency

Farmacia Journal is dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge and supports the open exchange of research data. We encourage authors of our articles to share their research data which includes, but is not limited to, raw and processed data, protocols, methodologies, software, algorithms, and any related research materials. Data should adhere to the FAIR principles, ensuring they are findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable, thereby facilitating other researchers in locating and utilizing these resources.

Data Deposit Recommendations

Authors are urged to deposit their data and supporting code in recognized repositories to ensure long-term accessibility and reusability. If direct deposition is not feasible, authors must state the reasons within the Data Availability Statement of their manuscript and are encouraged to make the data available upon reasonable request. Research materials necessary for replicating the study should be detailed in the Materials and Methods section of the paper.

Handling of Sensitive Data

Where legal, ethical, or privacy concerns preclude the sharing of data, authors must clearly articulate these restrictions in their Data Availability Statement at the time of submission. Data must be handled in compliance with participant consent and without compromising participant anonymity or local data protection laws. If access to data is restricted, authors should outline the conditions under which the data can be accessed.

Data Availability Statements

Every manuscript must include a Data Availability Statement. Options for this statement include:

  • Publicly accessible repository: “The data supporting this study’s findings are openly available in [repository name] at [DOI/URL], reference number [accession number].”
  • Available upon request: “The data in this study are available from the corresponding author on reasonable request due to [reason for restriction].”
  • Embargo due to commercial reasons: “Data supporting this study’s findings will be available in [repository name] at [URL/DOI] after an embargo period ending [date] to allow for the commercialization of research findings.”
  • Restrictions apply: “The datasets for this article are not readily available because [reason]. Requests to access the datasets should be directed to [contact information].”
  • Derived from public domain resources: “The data in this study are available in [repository name] at [URL/DOI], and were derived from public domain resources listed here [resources and URLs].”
  • Data within article/supplementary material: “The data supporting the findings of this study are contained within the article and its supplementary material.”
  • Data is unavailable (theoretical research or no new data generated): “No new data were created or analyzed in this study; this paper is a conceptual analysis.”

Preservation of Data

Farmacia Journal encourages authors to maintain their data on institutional or laboratory servers for a minimum of five years post-publication. Should the original repository cease to exist or lose the data, authors may be requested to relocate the data to another repository.

Selecting an Appropriate Repository

Authors should deposit data in recognized repositories that ensure long-term preservation, provide stable identifiers such as DOIs, offer unrestricted access, and support open licenses. We recommend using resources like re3data.org or fairsharing.org to identify suitable data repositories.

Data Citation

Authors must cite datasets and code referenced or used in their study. This includes datasets generated by the authors and those from other researchers. Citations should include both the dataset and any associated publications.

Software and Code

For studies involving novel software or code development, authors should deposit code in a recognized public repository or include it as supplementary material to their publication. Detailed information about the software used, including version and settings, must be included in the manuscript.

Supplementary Material

Additional files relevant to the study can be submitted as supplementary material during the manuscript submission process. These files will be accessible to reviewers and should ideally be in common, non-proprietary formats.

Ethical Considerations

For studies requiring ethical consideration, such as human or animal research, appropriate ethical approval must be obtained and detailed in the manuscript. Data derived from such studies must be handled with particular care, ensuring all ethical guidelines, including those related to privacy and consent, are strictly followed.
