Abstract:
The study was performed in order to assess the sorption capacity of a hydrogel based on polyhexamethyleneguanidine
hydrochloride by using the method of doping the hydrogel with cefotaxime antibiotic from the cephalosporin series.
According to the HPLC method with UV detection the sorption of antibiotic into the hydrogel was more than 50% and the
percentage of drug released within 40 minutes exposure to ultrasound was 15%. The study results showed the possibility of
using hydrogels based on polyhexamethyleneguanidine hydrochloride as potential drug carrier.
