Abstract:
Patients with metabolic syndrome have a higher risk of cardiovascular events than healthy subjects. Many studies proved that
plasma lipoprotein levels represent predictive factors for coronary disease. Among lipoproteins, small low density
lipoproteins (sLDL) particles have the highest atherogenic potential. For patients with metabolic syndrome, levels of plasma
sLDL, as compared to other lipid markers that constitute cardiovascular risk factors, and correlated with carotid artery
intima-media thickness (IMT) measured by ultrasound imaging, may represent useful markers for medical and
pharmaceutical practice.
