Abstract:
The present paper presents an ion-pair reversed phase liquid chromatographic method (IP-RP-HPLC) for the assay of terbinafine. A C18 column was used as stationary phase, and the mobile phase consisted of an aqueous acid solution (pH 2.0, adjusted with orto-phosphoric acid) of sodium 1-heptanesulfonate (0.2%), as ion-pairing reagent, and acetonitrile in a 60/40 (v/v) ratio. The detection wavelength was 220 nm. The method is simple, accurate and reproducible. It was successfully applied for the assay of terbinafine in pharmaceutical dosage forms (tablets).
