Abstract:
Melampyrum bihariense Kern. and Melampyrum cristatum L.(Scrophulariaceae) are two vegetal species, spontaneous in Romanian flora. The name „Melampyrum” originates from two greek words: „melas”-black and „pyros”-wheat, the plant seeds looking like black colored corns. This study investigates the diuretic, saluretic and uricosuric effects of two tinctures from Melampyrum bihariense Kern. and Melampyrum cristatum L. The diuretic effect for the studied tinctures was weak, but the tincture from Melampyrum cristatum L. 1.4 mg/kg presented a significant uricosuric effect, useful for patients with high levels of uricemy.
