Abstract:
Hydrophylic matrix tablets comprising clonidine hydrochloride and two sorts of polyvinyl alcohols (PVA) with the same molecular weight and a different acetyl content, were compressed by wet granulation, in order to obtain a prolonged release of the drug. The effects of the acetyl content from the polymer, the polymer ratio on the compressibility of the tablet and their influence on in vitro release of the active substance, were studied. The drug release from such tablets shows that PVA with 5.56 % acetyl content have a lower release rate than PVA with 16.58 % acetyl content.
