Abstract:
Albendazole, an imidazole derivative, is an antihelminthic drug used for the treatment of systemic parasitosis. Its low hydrosolubility limits its dissolution and absorption and therefore, its oral bioavailability. One possible approach for improving the physico-chemical properties of a drug is the complexation with cyclodextrins.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin in improving the solubility characteristics of albendazole and the possibility of complex formation, using differential scanning calorimetry.
