Abstract:
The wax from fresh Hippophae rhamnoides L. fruits, sea buckthorn, white sea buckthorn (Eleagnaceae) and from the groats that emerged from the fat oil extracted from these fruits was isolated and physically and chemically analysed. The identification and raw material qualitative determination criterions were also established. The presence of unicellular trichomes, 20-30 reunitied in bouquets (Eleagnaceae family characteristics), of waxy epicarp, endocarp cells with moniliform thickenings and of sclerified fibres, with strong thickened walls, penetrated by small canals, were considered anatomical elements adequate for the microscopical characterization of fruits with seeds. The emphasize of fatty oil, carotenoides, sterols, flavonoid and triterpenic aglicones through chemical reactions, completes the image of raw materials identity and quality establishment criterions. The parameters written in FE (European Pharmacopoeia) for Carnauba wax were used to characterize the wax.
