Abstract:
The aim of this study was to prepare and characterize in vitro and in vivo colloidal liposomal systems containing octyl-methoxicinnamate (OMC), in order to enhance the efficacy of some dermato-cosmetic formulations with photo-protective action. The liposomes with OMC were obtained by the lipid film hydratation method, using the following compounds: OMC, soy-lecithin, cholesterol, chloroform and phosphate buffer solution (pH 6). The polydispersion degree of the liposomal system was reduced by extrusion through a membrane, using an Avanti Polar Lipids miniextruder. The vesicular systems were characterized by VEM (video enhanced microscopy) and DLS (dynamic light scattering). The OMC liposomal dispersions obtained were then incorporated into three different types of formulation: two O/W creams, and one hydrogel. Simultaneously, three equivalent control formulations, containing only OMC not entrapped in liposomes, were prepared. The photo-protective action of all formulations was determined using the Mexameter MX 18, by measuring two parameters: the melanin index and the erythematic index. The average of the obtained results was then compared to the values obtained for the non-treated skin areas. The results showed that the liposomal formulations containing OMC offered a higher photo-protective effect than the test products (control formulations).
