Abstract:

Carol Davila was a pioneer of the organisation of Romanian academic school, during the creation of The Romanian National State.
Making use of the teaching experience and of the French sanitary infrastructure, Carol Davila has organised the sanitary service in Romania, developing projects for sanitary inspection, reorganizing the Military Hospital from Bucharest and submitting for approval some measures of military medicine and hygiene. He has established an average-level surgery school, which will become in 1869 the Faculty of Medicine. In these schools, he has started pharmacy and veterinary medicine classes.
All these matters assure the inclusion his name in the chronicles of Romanian medical school, as founder and in the national culture patrimony.
