Abstract:

The leaves collected from Cirsium erisithales (Jacq.) Scop. (Asteraceae) were studied in order to be used in phytotherapy. This study determined the morpho-anatomical characteristics, identified the active principles and established the action on plant cell division.
Microscopically we identified the specific anatomical elements: multicellular trichomes, anomocytic stomates and cluster-crystals of calcium oxalate.
The chemical qualitative analysis showed the presence of flavones (rutin, quercetin), polyphenolcarboxilic acids (caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid), sterols, triterpenes, tannins, carotenoids, coumarins, nitrate compounds, mono and polysaccharides.
This vegetal product contains: 0.45 – 0.53 g% flavones (expressed as rutin) and 0.19 – 0.23 g% polyphenolcarboxilic acids (expressed as caffeic acid).
The phytobiological researches established a total mitoinhibitory action for the aqueous extract 5 %. The extract was not citotoxic.
