Abstract:
The use of the species Clematis vitalba L. (Ranunculaceae) in the traditional medicine as an anti-inflamatory agent and the lack in chemical studies determined to start more detailed investigations. Carotenoides (in the leaf and in the flower), coumarins (in the stem), flavonosides, triterpenic saponins, polyphenolcarboxilic acids, tannins and polysaccharides (in the leaf, flower and stem) were identified. The phytobiological study revealed a cytotoxic effect (precipitated nuclear material, kinesis inhibition, rare nuclei with modified forms) for the leaf, and a chromatoclasic action (hypertrophied nuclei, anaphases with multiple bridges, telophases and anaphases in tropokinesis) for the flower.
