Abstract:
Ajuga genevensis L., bugle (Lamiaceae) is a common species used in folk medicine against diarrhoea and in dermatological disease.
The aim of the study is the determination of morpho-anatomical characteristics, the chemical composition and the specific action on the plant cell division.
The microscopically exam established the presence of protecting hairs, druses of calcium oxalate and specific elements for Lamiaceae family (glandular hairs and diacytic type stomates)
Chemical screening proved the presence of flavones (0.8-1 g% expressed in rutoside), anthocyanins (0.15–0.21 g% expressed in cyanidin chloride), polyphenolcarboxilic acids (0.75–0.8 g% expressed in caffeic acid), condensed tannins, carotenoids, coumarins, triterpenes, iridoids, non-alkaloid nitrogen containing compounds, monosaccharides and polysaccharides.
The aqueous extract 5 – 0.033 g% inhibited the root elongation, this action decreased with the increase of the dilution. A mitoinhibitory action (cromatoclazic type) was indicated by the modifications of the mitose stages.
