Abstract:

The aim of this study was the analysis of the release kinetic of clotrimazole from pharmaceutical gels. There were prepared and analyzed 15 formulations, which differ by polymer type, polymer ratio and concentration. The in vitro dissolution study was made using a diffusion cell, the dissolution medium was dioxane: acetate buffer pH 5.5 1:1 (v/v) 30 mL, and HPLC assay. Ten mathematical models (6 mechanistic and 4 empirical) were tested using the release profile of clotrimazole from each formulation. The best mechanistic model assumes there are two consecutive 1st order kinetic processes and the best empirical model was Hill model. The representative model describing the kinetics of clotrimazole release was Hill model and its characteristic parameters were calculated and analyzed.
