Abstract:
The aim of the present study was to investigate, in mice, the relationships existing between the pschychoneuroendocrine, behavioural types, and the monoaminoxidase activity (MAO), after the exposure of the animals to acute stress. The first step implied the separations of the studied mice into three pschychoneuroendocrine behavioural groups: the adrenergic type (the “A” type, described by Friedman and Rosenman), the opioid type (the “O” type, described by Cristea A.N.) and the equilibrated, intermediate, normal, „N” type. Animals were divided into these three groups according to their pain sensitivity, assesed using the hot plate test. MAO enzymatic activity is a biochemical parameter involved in the neuronal metabolism. Its activity reflects in the regulation of catecholamines’metabolism at neuronal level. Since catecolamines’ level greatly modify following acute stress, we first exposed all animals to the forced swimming test and afterwards we evaluated the enzymatic activity of MAO. This last step of the experiment was performed using a method based on the reduction of para-nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) and triptamine was chosen as enzimatic substrate with specificities for the MAO-A and MAO-B forms.
