Abstract:
This study proposes a botanical and chemical examination of the leaves from Datura innoxia Mill. (Solanaceae). The vegetal product is made of thick leaves, with long petiole; the lamina is cordate, pubescent on both faces, unequal at the base, acuminate at the apex and has entire margins; the odour is unpleasant and the taste is bitter. The microscopically exam identified: pieces of epidermis with anisocitic stomata; pointed, pluricellular trichoma, with warmy cuticle; secretory trichoma with pluricellular stalks and bi- or pluricelular heads; piece of clorophylian parenchyma; spiral and annular vessels; calcium oxalate (crystals, cluster-crystals). The vegetal product contains: tropane alkaloids, nonalkaloid nitrogen-containing compounds, monosaccharides and other reducing-compounds, flavones, polyphenolcarboxilic acids, tannins, coumarins. The present of polysaccharides (mucilages) is not a certainty. There were determined 0.169 % tropane alkaloids (expressed in hyoscyamine).
