Abstract:

The aim of the present study is represented by the investigation of polyphenolic compounds in foliar buds of Tilia tomentosa Moench (silver linden) through a high performance chromatographic method (HPLC). The presence of 19 componds was monitored: the acids gentisic, p-coumaric, caffeic, ferulic, sinapic, chlorogenic, cichoric, caftaric, as well as that of the flavonoid aglycones: apigenin, luteolin, quercetol, kaempferol, patuletin, myricetol, fisetin, respectively of the glycosides isoquercitrin, hyperozid, quercitrin and rutosid. From the investigated phenol carboxylic acids, linden buds only contain p-coumaric acid (free and esterified), while caffeic acid is esterified as chlorogenic acid. The lack of caftaric and cichoric acids indicates that in buds, the tartaric esters are not synthesized. Of the flavonoids, the glycosides of the flavonols quercetol (hyperoside, isoquercitrin) and kaempferol were detected. The amount of quercetol in the buds is with one order of magnitude higher than the quantity of any other polyphenol. In comparison with other flavonoids identified in mature silver linden leaves, the buds are deprived of rutoside and quercitrin. Other compounds like apigenin, luteolin, patuletin, myricetol and fisetin could be detected neither in buds, nor in leaves.
