Abstract:
It was chosen for this study the most frequent isolated species from pathological specimens: Staphilococcus aureus, Neisseria spp, Streptococcus, Escherichia Coli, Klebsiella, Proteus and Pseudomonas; they have different structure of the cell wall (Gram positive or Gram negative staining), different morphology: rods of cocci; and different external structures, such as the presence of capsule (Klebsiella is enclosed within a capsule). The strains have been identified using standard tests (API ident for Gram negative rods, Staph-ident agglutination for Staphilococcus, Strepto-ident Agglutination for Streptococcus).
It was tested the susceptibility of these strains using irradiated disks that contain 20 µl of different standard solution substances used for our study. The strains were inoculated on blood-agar Petri dishes and incubated 24h at 37 0C. After six hours of incubation, it was added again 20 µl of standard solution substances on each disk. After second incubation it was measured the diameter of the inhibition areas around the disks (18 hours). The results are expressed in inhibition area of the strains in the presence of extracted solution from Sambucus nigra elderberry with and without irradiation. Inhibition area is greater for irradiated solutions and for more concentrated samples.
